FAQs

Do I need to be referred by my GP or other professional/practitioner?

You do not need to be referred by a medical practitioner. You can contact me directly if you think that discussing any particular issue in counselling or psychotherapy might help you.

Do you diagnose and prescribe medications?

I am not a general practitioner or a psychiatrist, so I cannot give a medical diagnosis or prescribe medications. If necessary, we can discuss involving your GP in your therapy for medical support. In any case, I would only contact your GP with your consent.

Are you supervised?

Yes, as required by the guidelines set by the UKCP, I have to discuss my client-work with my supervisor. Client anonymity is always safeguarded and my supervisor is bound by the same code of ethics as I am.

Are sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is an essential element of therapy. The material presented in the sessions is kept strictly confidential and discussed only with the clinical supervisor. In line with the UKCP’s guidelines, I might have to breach confidentiality under extreme circumstances, but I would try to discuss any actions I might take with you first whenever possible.

How do you ensure your professional development?

As required by the UKCP, I ensure my continuous professional development by regularly attending seminars and workshops, reading books and specialised magazines and exchanging ideas with peers.
